Last Bite

A pink glass doe rests in a tranquil pose on the threshold between sleep and death. The title Last Bite refers to the hunting ritual of the “last bite” — a symbolic farewell to the animal that has been killed. In the doe’s mouth, however, the traditional twig is replaced by an apple, opening up further layers of meaning.

The apple is a symbol of knowledge, temptation, and original sin, while also evoking the poisoned fruit from Snow White, whose bite brings on a sleep resembling death. The doe can therefore be seen both as hunted game and as a fairy-tale creature that has merely fallen asleep.

The fragility and translucency of the pink glass stand in contrast to the theme of death. Last Bite moves between beauty and decay, innocence and guilt, desire and its consequences. The final bite becomes a moment of crossing a threshold — an instant after which nothing is ever quite the same again.
