Désirée

Désirée, a name originating in the Puritan colonies of New England, carried a paradox: sensuality within a sect that sought to suppress it. The sculpture works with the layering of meanings, the transfer of symbols, and the transience of linguistic heritage.

Štipl speaks of an “evolution of names, systems, and emotions” that accumulate within his visual vocabulary, inspired by the Middle Ages, folk art, iconography, and cinematic archetypes.
