Rony Plesl

Atrey

2025

Edition: 1/6 – crystal

The chandelier takes its exotic name from Atrey, the hero of the iconic film The NeverEnding Story, and draws on a world of childhood imagination, dream symbolism and animate nature. Six branches of crystal glass bearing the imprint of real tree bark create the impression of movement frozen in space, as if time and matter had come to a standstill in a single moment.

Within the raw aesthetic of (A)void Gallery, Atrey provides an elegant counterpoint: clear and precise, yet vivid and organic. It evokes a memory of childhood, a world in which even inanimate objects can speak and time seems not to exist.

The chandelier is rooted in the work of Rony Plesl, whose independent artistic practice has long explored remarkable natural forms, their aesthetic strangeness and the endless variety of structures, colours and shapes that he translates into glass. The Vitrum Vivum kiln-cast glass technology pushes the material into entirely new dimensions, giving the artist a freedom of expression reminiscent of the imaginative world of childhood dreams.

Atrey is based on the Mono no aware chandelier created for the Czech National Pavilion at EXPO 2025 in Osaka as part of Rony Plesl’s monumental glass installation. Plesl also has extensive experience designing lighting and chandeliers for private collectors and leading brands. Another notable example is King and Queen, the chandelier he presented at his retrospective exhibition at the Royal Summer Palace in Prague.
