Jan Kovářík

Jan Kovářík (1980) is a Czech sculptor and a graduate of the Sculpture Studio at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. Growing up in an environment closely connected with ceramics had a strong influence on his perception of colour and material.

His work is characterised by biomorphic objects based on the psychological effects of colour and form. He focuses on both closed and open forms, objects resembling mattresses or clouds, distorted shapes, and large-scale, formally complex installations made from mixed materials.

He has successfully participated in several competitions for sculptures in public space. His best-known works include the Maria Theresa Monument near the Powder Bridge in Prague (2020) and the Roubíček family tombstone at the New Jewish Cemetery in Prague (2021).

In 2023, he created the monumental site-specific intervention Concentration at the Church of the Most Holy Saviour in Prague.
