Extincta Natura refers to the many plants and other organisms that have become extinct and ceased to exist. The glass cast evokes the discovery of ancient flora, much like archaeologists uncover imprints and fossils of trilobites within layers of rock. The painting then becomes a kind of attempt to search for a new, as yet unknown species.
